I checked the locks 12 times every night. I knew it was irrational. I could not stop. After 18 sessions it dropped to twice. After 30, the urge was still there but it was background noise, not a siren. That is the difference between a life and a ritual

My history

OCD had cost me two relationships, one business partner, and a decade of sleep. I checked the locks 12 times every night. I knew the door was locked after the first check. My brain did not care.

I had tried CBT twice. It helped to a point, then plateaued. At 41, I came in expecting nothing.

The shift was not dramatic. No single session where I woke up free. More like the volume turned down, slowly, week by week. Session 15, I had checked only 7 times. Session 18, twice, and even those felt almost optional. By session 30, the thought still appeared, but it had lost its authority. It was a thought, not a command.

My partner noticed before I did. She said one morning, 'You seem lighter.' I did not have words for it. I still don't, really
